Intro To My Best Blanket

 I would like to say, "Thank you."  You stumbled upon my space for other future rantings.  This is where I reflect on radical ideas like salvation, atonement, missing the mark and the Trinity.  Well, possibly, as I really haven't a specific course in mind for my thoughts.  But I can share my first one here...my blanket.

Seeking a title for these musings, I stumbled upon Peter 4:8, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."  I then think about the greatest commandment, to love God and love others.  It really speaks volumes to me.

What if love was a blanket?  Would I be able to keep it unblemished and without holes?  How would I treat it when it needs cleaning?   Do I have a big enough blanket to cover my friends and loved ones?  Can it be replaced?  I can keep taking the analogy further but I don't want to scare anyone with this first musing.

What I do know is that love is so ultimately important.  It should be an umbrella that we break out when a friend is caught in a storm.  It should be what we tuck our family members in with at night.  And our world needs a lot more of it.  I think that is why the name of the blog is as it is and I hope you take something away from it.

On The Importance Of Preaching

  After thousands of years with written scripture, you would think we would all have the basics down by now.  I was recently asked, "Why preaching remains important for the ministry of church leadership?"  The short answer is found in Matthew 28:19-20, " Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Making disciples and teaching.  That's the simple answer.  " Go tell the world about me.  I was dead but now I live.  I've gotta go now for a little while but goodbye is not the end."  I go back to these lyrics to a song by Cain talking about the Great Commission often.  What the apostles endured wasn't supposed to lie in the grave with them as the disciples would soon need to become teachers.  They were reluctant at first to travel outside o...

Don't Skip To The Good Parts (They Are All Good Parts)

I'll tell you something about myself. If I am late to a movie, I will walk out or just not go. My reasoning is that I believe context is important. Can you imagine how Star Wars would affect you if, for the first time you saw it, you knew that Darth Vader was Luke and Leia's father and that Leia and Luke were twins? It takes a lot of suspense, drama, shock and direction away from the viewer. You might go through the whole movie hoping for a family reunion. Really, it becomes a different film. I believe some believers in Jesus came from the Christmas and Easter stories and don't really understand why they call Jesus the “lamb.” Imagine if they only knew about his birth, death and resurrection. All important moments but we really wouldn't understand our role as believers.
